England right-back Kyle Walker has completed a loan move to AC Milan from Manchester City, as announced by the clubs on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Walker will join Milan for the remainder of the season, with the potential for the deal to become permanent in the summer.
Walker faced a challenging season as City captain, having not started a match since the team’s derby loss to Manchester United on December 15.
This transfer marks the end of Walker’s long association with Manchester City, a club he joined from Tottenham in 2017. During his tenure, he won six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League under manager Pep Guardiola.
In a social media post, Walker expressed his gratitude: “Manchester City... where do I start? Signing for this incredible club in 2017 was a dream come true,” he stated. “Seven years later, winning 17 trophies, including the Champions League and the famous treble is something I could only have dreamt as a child.”
AC Milan is currently positioned eighth in Serie A but is on track for automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16 after achieving five consecutive victories in European competition.
Walker also shared his enthusiasm for joining AC Milan, where he will reunite with fellow England internationals Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. He remarked, “I’m delighted and proud to sign for AC Milan! A club with such rich history, one I’ve followed since I was a kid. It’s an honour to join and I can’t wait to pull on the Rossoneri shirt and get started.”
He extended his gratitude to his supporters, saying, “A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, both on and off the pitch. See you soon! Forza Milan.”
Walker’s move comes in response to the loss of Emerson Royal, who recently sustained an injury that could sideline the Brazilian right-back for up to two months.
This transfer is part of a broader restructuring at Manchester City, which is currently trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by 12 points after an unprecedented run of four consecutive English titles.
In related news, Egypt forward Omar Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday in a four-and-a-half-year contract for an initial fee of £59 million ($72.6 million), along with potential add-ons worth £4 million.
Marmoush is City’s third signing during the January transfer window, following the additions of defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
