Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou has criticized his team's performance following a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby, describing it as “not good enough” at the Emirates Stadium.
Tottenham's Heung Min Son opened the scoring with a deflected volley in the 25th minute. However, Arsenal quickly equalized and took the lead with two goals within 15 minutes, the first of which was a controversial own-goal by Dominic Solanke, resulting from a corner that replays indicated should not have been awarded.
In his post-match comments, Postecoglou chose not to dwell on the referee's decision, emphasizing the need for his team to take responsibility for their performance. He stated, “It wasn’t a corner, but that’s how things are going for us at the moment. That aside, we weren’t anywhere near the level we needed to be in the first half in such a big game.”
The coach expressed disappointment over his team's failure to implement their high-press strategy, which has been a hallmark of his coaching style. He remarked, “Way too passive, allowed Arsenal to take control of the game,” and acknowledged that the team's performance did not reflect their identity or the aggressive style they aim to play.
Postecoglou noted that Spurs are currently missing several key players, including regular center backs Micky van de Ven and Christian Romero, as well as Rodrigo Bentancur and Guglielmo Vicario. He emphasized the importance of hard work to improve the team's fortunes, stating, “There’s no magic cure here, you have to get up tomorrow and work hard.”
He concluded by stressing that the current results are unacceptable and that the team must strive for improvement, saying, “This can’t be accepted by anyone at the club, us losing this many games in a league season is not right.”
