Rashford's Dispute with United Continues Amidst Anticipation of Resolution

Ruben Amorim has expressed confidence in his managerial approach as he seeks to rejuvenate Manchester United amidst ongoing speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford's future with the club.

Since taking over from the dismissed Erik ten Hag, Amorim's tenure has been marked by ups and downs. The team recently celebrated a dramatic comeback victory against Manchester City, but subsequently faced a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, following a narrow 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Notably, Rashford has been absent from all three matches, raising concerns about his future at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old forward, who emerged from United's youth system, hinted at a desire for a "new challenge" during a recent interview.

Ahead of the upcoming Boxing Day match against Wolves, Amorim maintained that his perspective on the situation remains unchanged. "Normal situation," he remarked, emphasizing his commitment to making decisions that benefit the team. He noted, "I speak with him (Rashford) every day... it’s my decision, only my decision." Amorim acknowledged Rashford's eagerness to play but reiterated his authority in team selections.

Amorim also addressed comments made by former United player Gary Neville, who suggested that Rashford's potential departure felt inevitable. Amorim dismissed the notion that such speculation was a distraction for him or the team, stating, "I’m really focused... everybody in Carrington knows what I’m talking about." He emphasized that the focus remains on improvement rather than external opinions.

When asked about Rashford's performance expectations, Amorim stated he desires "the best that they can be" from all players, highlighting the importance of responsibility and engagement within the team. Currently, Manchester United sits in a disappointing 13th place in the league standings ahead of their match against Wolves, who will be led by Amorim's compatriot, Vitor Pereira.

Amorim concluded by acknowledging the challenges faced since his arrival, asserting, "it’s on me because I’m responsible for the team... We just have to think about improving, to understand the context and not focus on what happened in the past."
