Manuel Neuer has been suspended for two DFB-Pokal matches following his red card during a match against Bayer Leverkusen.
The German Football Association confirmed the suspension after Neuer was sent off for the first time in his career when he charged out of his goal and collided with Jeremie Frimpong in Bayern's 1-0 defeat in the DFB-Pokal.
This suspension is specific to the DFB-Pokal and will not impact the current season. If Neuer extends his contract beyond 2025, he will be ineligible to participate in the DFB-Pokal until the quarter-finals of the next season.
After the incident, Neuer accepted responsibility for the loss, expressing regret in post-match interviews and on social media. He stated, “That’s tough ... Unfortunately I came too late in the situation in which I tried to help. After the red card, it was of course extremely difficult for the boys with one man down, but they really tried everything. I’m sorry," in an Instagram post.
