Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expressed that his determination to achieve success for the struggling Premier League club has intensified following a challenging series of results, despite facing criticism from frustrated supporters.
After a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth left Spurs in 10th place, Postecoglou engaged in a dialogue with some fans in the traveling support. Earlier this season, he committed to ending Tottenham's 16-year trophy drought during his second year in charge.
“I am here, I am going to fight to make sure we bring success to this football club. Nothing really changes,” Postecoglou stated. He emphasized that doubt, whether internal or external, only strengthens his resolve to improve the situation.
Regarding his interaction with supporters post-defeat, the 59-year-old remarked, “They aren’t behind me, they are behind the club. I have got no interest in who is behind me.” He acknowledged that the traveling fans were passionate and expressed their dissatisfaction, which he took into consideration moving forward.
In the coming weeks, Spurs will face top teams Liverpool and Chelsea in two of their next three Premier League matches, along with a Europa League match against Rangers and a League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
Tottenham has secured only one victory in their last six matches across all competitions, a notable 4-0 win against Manchester City that ended the English champions' two-year unbeaten home streak.
Injuries to key players, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and center-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have compounded the team's challenges. Additionally, Ben Davies sustained an injury during the Bournemouth match, further straining the squad.
Postecoglou acknowledged that the team has often been responsible for their own setbacks in recent games. He noted, “For me the disappointment last night, there was a repeat of cycle of us going into games, starting well enough but then allowing the opposition to get a grip on it by either conceding a sloppy goal — like we did last night — or not taking our opportunities.”
He stressed the need to break this cycle, despite the current limitations in squad depth, and recognized that the team has repeatedly undermined their own efforts in matches.
