VfB Stuttgart faced a significant defeat against Red Star Belgrade at the Rajko Mitić Stadium on Wednesday evening, marking their third loss in the 2024/25 Champions League campaign. The match concluded with a score of 5-1, leaving Stuttgart's supporters disheartened.
The game began with Stuttgart showing promise, as Chris Führich recorded the team's first shot on target in the 4th minute. Shortly after, Ermedin Demirovic scored his first Champions League goal, capitalizing on a defensive error by Belgrade to give Stuttgart an early lead.
However, the advantage was short-lived. Silas, a VfB loanee, equalized for Red Star in the 12th minute with a well-executed solo effort. Following the equalizer, Red Star dominated the match, taking the lead in the 31st minute when Rade Krunic scored after a defensive lapse from Stuttgart.
Stuttgart struggled to regain control, and after halftime, Red Star continued to threaten. Despite several crucial saves from Stuttgart's goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, Mirko Ivanic scored the third goal for Red Star in the 65th minute. The situation worsened for Stuttgart when Nemanja Radonjic added two more goals, concluding the match with a final score of 5-1.
