Bordeaux end Lyon stranglehold for first title in a decade - Ligue 1 in 2008/09

Laurent Blanc, the former French national team defender, led Bordeaux to their first league title victory in a decade in just his second year as a manager. They claimed a record 11 consecutive wins to clinch the title ahead of Marseille and Lyon. The season also saw significant player transfers, with Lyon strengthening their squad despite the departure of key players from other top sides. The season saw Marseille initially leading the championship, but Lyon quickly settled into their typical rhythm. Bordeaux, despite facing difficulties in the winter, managed to keep pace with Marseille at the top, ultimately securing the title with an 11th consecutive win against Caen. Yoann Gourcuff was named the player of the season for his outstanding playmaking, while Eric Gerets, the Marseille coach, was awarded the manager of the season. Eden Hazard was recognized as the young player of the season, and Andre-Pierre Gignac finished as the top goalscorer. The most expensive transfer of the season was Ederson's move from Nice to Lyon for €15M. The key moment of the season was Lyon's victory over Marseille, which effectively ended Marseille's title hopes and paved the way for Bordeaux to secure the championship.
