Stuttgart Boss Reflects on Woltemade Sale to Newcastle: Painful Yet Unavoidable

VfB Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth reflected on selling Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United for a reported €75 million at the end of the 2025 summer transfer window. He described the decision as unavoidable due to the player's desire to move and the large bid.

Wohlgemuth said the departure was painful but necessary, noting the historic size of the offer made it impossible to refuse. He added that while speculation about a potential return is pointless, other players have since filled the gap left by Woltemade.

The transfer, he stated, has improved Stuttgart’s financial stability and independence and enhanced the club’s reputation within Europe.
