Nagelsmann Confirms Starting Roles for Several Players Ahead of Germany’s Friendly with Switzerland

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann disclosed a fixed starting XI for Friday’s friendly against Switzerland during his pre-match press conference. The plan includes two changes in central defense, with Nico Schlotterbeck and Jonathan Tah set to start ahead of Antonio Rüdiger, who is included in the squad for the first time since September after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Rüdiger has publicly committed to contributing fully regardless of his role, and Nagelsmann noted that his training sessions have been strong and that he appreciates the contributions of Schlotti and Jona in his absence.

In midfield, with Aleksandar Pavlovic and Felix Nmecha out injured, Angelo Stiller will partner Leon Goretzka. Nagelsmann said Angelo’s inclusion reflects a shift to a different defensive-midfield profile given the suspended options.

Up front, Kai Havertz will make his first Germany appearance since November 2024 after returning from a long-term injury, and he is set to start to gain minutes and rhythm with the team. The Basel-friendly kickoff is scheduled for 20:45 local time.
