Germany U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo expressed disappointment that Paul Wanner has chosen to represent Austria at senior level rather than Germany, saying the 20-year-old PSV midfielder has significant potential and is still developing.
Di Salvo acknowledged understanding of Wanner's decision, noting that the player now has a strong chance of being included in Austria’s World Cup squad and may seize the opportunity to play on football’s biggest stage.
He emphasized that the choice to switch federations is ultimately the player's and that he respects the decision if it aligns with the player's path to senior international play.
Wanner could debut for Austria in a friendly against Ghana on Friday.
