Eberechi Eze scored twice as Arsenal defeated Tottenham 4-1 to extend their Premier League lead to five points, while Liverpool edged Nottingham Forest 1-0 thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s late strike.
Eze, who nearly joined Spurs before moving to Arsenal, ended a drought by scoring twice, having been restored to the starting lineup after a period of limited minutes. He opened the scoring, and after an immediate reply from Tottenham, Viktor Gyokeres and Eze added to Arsenal’s tally with goals in the second half, while Gyokeres completed the scoring in stoppage time.
The result, coming after back-to-back league draws for Arsenal, keeps them on course for a first title in 22 years, with a game in hand on leaders Manchester City and a potential title decider in April at home. Tottenham, who appointed interim boss Igor Tudor, remain in a precarious position above the relegation zone by four points.
Liverpool’s win over Forest was secured by Mac Allister’s stoppage-time finish after a late scare, with a controversial disallowed goal for a handball against Mac Allister earlier in the closing stages. The victory keeps Liverpool in sixth, level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United and within reach of the top four.
Other results saw Fulham move into the top half with a 3-1 win at Sunderland thanks to Raul Jimenez’s brace, while Crystal Palace registered a late 1-0 victory over Wolves through Evann Guessand’s 90th-minute strike to boost their hopes of climbing away from trouble.
