Kahn Says He’d Use Messi Benchmark to Inspire Sané, Revealing Motivational Tactics

Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has described trying a creative approach to unlock Leroy Sané's potential, telling him that with the right mentality he could have reached the level of Lionel Messi.

The remarks come amid discussions of Sané's inconsistent performances and perceived issues with body language during his time at the club. Kahn said he challenged the player to demonstrate his talent more consistently and reach his full potential.

Kahn recounted that he told Sané, “If I had your talent, I’d be Messi,” prompting Sané to respond with astonishment before Kahn encouraged him to go out and prove it. The aim, according to Kahn, was to help Sané become capable of performing at a higher level.

Sané, who is 30, departed Bayern on a free transfer last summer to join Galatasaray. He had made 223 appearances for Bayern, scoring 61 goals and providing 55 assists during his time with the club.
