Borussia Mönchengladbach Clash with Union Berlin as Hosts Urgently Seek Three Points

Borussia Mönchengladbach will attempt to end a seven-game winless run when they host Union Berlin on Saturday.

Gladbach have drifted toward the relegation picture after collecting only three points from their last seven matches, with back-to-back defeats—3-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt and 2-1 to Freiburg—extending their winless run. They have not won away since December, with six consecutive away league losses since the win over Mainz 05.

Home form has also been inconsistent, with just one win from their previous six competitive home games. The team, sitting two points above the danger zone, will rely on delivering in front of their supporters against Union, whom they beat 1-0 in the last home meeting in September 2024. Scoring first is particularly challenging for them, as they have lost all 11 of the 12 league games in which they concede first this season.

Team News: The hosts will be without Nathan Ngoumou, Tim Kleindienst and Robin Hack, while Giovanni Reyna is unlikely to play. Alejo Sarco is expected to return from injury. Predicted lineup: Nicolas; Diks, Elvedi, Takai, Ullrich; Reitz, Sander, Engelhardt, Mohya; Tabakovic, Honorat.

Union Berlin travel with renewed belief after ending a seven-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, with Rani Khedira scoring the decisive goal. They will aim to secure an away win for the calendar year, though they must avoid a third consecutive away defeat after losses to Hoffenheim and Hamburg on the road.

Union’s recent away results against Gladbach have been mixed, with one defeat in the last five trips (W2, D2). They recorded a 3-1 home win over Gladbach in October’s reverse fixture, aided by a Danilho Doekhi brace and a Khedira goal. Team News: Diogo Leite, Josip Juranović, Tom Rothe and Robert Skov are unavailable, and Andrej Ilić serves a one-match ban. Predicted lineup: Rønnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Nsoki; Trimmel, Khedira, Kemlein, Köhn; Jeong, Schäfer; Ansah.
