Stuttgart earned a late winner against Young Boys in the Europa League, but results elsewhere mean they must proceed to the round of 16 play-offs.
Deniz Undav opened the scoring in the fifth minute, guiding home a neat ball from Lorenz Assignon after a cross to the right from Finn Jeltsch.
Within a minute of the restart, Demirovic extended the lead for the hosts, finishing a move that saw Undav slip the ball through to him to tuck away past the goalkeeper.
Young Boys pulled one back before the half-hour mark as Armin Gigovic’s superb strike from the edge of the box found the top corner, reducing Stuttgart’s advantage.
After a dominant first half, Young Boys equalised in the 57th minute when Sandro Lauper volleyed in from the edge of the box following a corner, making it 2-2 and shifting momentum in the match.
In the final seconds, a counterattack saw substitutes El Khannouss and Leweling combine down the left before Chema Andres arrived at the back post to convert from close range, securing a 3-2 victory for Stuttgart.
The result left Stuttgart in 10th place in the group as Porto led Rangers and Real Betis won, with Roma drawing, which collectively ensured the team will enter the Europa League round of 16 play-offs.
