RB Leipzig Sign French Centre-Back, Official Confirms

RB Leipzig have confirmed the signing of Abdoul Koné from Stade de Reims on a long-term contract running until 2031.

The 20-year-old French centre-back will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Stade Reims in Ligue 2.

The managing director for sport said the club beat strong competition to sign the defender: "We’re delighted to have signed Abdoul at this early stage despite strong competition and to have added a real talent in the centre-back position. He’s a tall, physical defender with real strength in duels and in the air, combined with exceptional pace over longer distances. Abdoul is also very composed in possession, enjoys being involved in build-up play, and brings a consistently high level of intensity. Thanks to his profile, he can also operate on the right side of defence. He will finish this season in Reims, continue his development there, and then join us in the summer."

Koné added: "I’m really happy to be taking the next step in my career by joining RB Leipzig and to be able to play for the club from the summer onwards. The club’s style of play and overall philosophy fit perfectly with my personal development goals. RB Leipzig has an excellent reputation internationally and especially in France. Many young players have shown in recent years how much you can develop here, both as a footballer and as a person. I’m particularly thinking of the French players in my position who have demonstrated what’s possible in Leipzig within this outstanding environment. I’m already looking forward to the summer, but until then my full focus is on finishing the season as successfully as possible with Stade Reims."
