RB Leipzig Aims to Reclaim Third Place With First Win at St. Pauli

The upcoming match between St. Pauli and RB Leipzig is a rescheduled fixture from matchday 16, with the game taking place at Millerntor under the floodlights.

St. Pauli started the season strong but have collected only six points from the last 15 league games, with their sole win in that period coming at home against Heidenheim. They have drawn goalless with Mainz and local rivals Hamburg after Martijn Kaars’ brace in the home win, while defeats away to Wolfsburg and Dortmund came after late goals.

A victory would lift St. Pauli into the relegation/promotion playoff place. Including two prior wins in their spell in the second division, they are unbeaten at Millerntor against Leipzig.

Team news for St. Pauli: left-back Adam Dźwigała is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the derby. Tomoya Ando could make his starting debut after joining from the J1 League, and Mathias Rasmussen could make his first Bundesliga appearance after leaving Union SG. Ricky-Jade Jones may lead the line if Kaars remains out of form.

RB Leipzig have won both league and cup meetings against St. Pauli last season. The Millerntor fixture ended goalless in their most recent meeting, and Leipzig also faced a goalless result against Werder Bremen in their two games against the promoted side. A win on Tuesday would move them back into third place, one point behind Stuttgart and Hoffenheim who have games in hand.

Team news for Leipzig: El Chadaille Bitshiabu will partner Willi Orbán at centre-back, with Castello Lukeba expected to return by the weekend, possibly delaying a move to Mainz. Abdoul Koné from Stade de Reims could be signed to address defensive options, while midfielders Assan Ouédraogo and Johan Bakayoko remain sidelined with injuries.

Predicted lineups cited include St. Pauli: Vasilj; Ando, Wahl, Mets; Pyrka, Sands, Smith, Oppie; Fujita, Pereira Lage, Jones, and Leipzig: Gulacsi; Baku, Orban, Bitshiabu, Raum; Seiwald; Schlager, Baumgartner; Diomande, Romulo, Nusa.
