RB Leipzig would be ready to turn down offers in the region of 80-90 million euros for Yan Diomande, according to supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff. The 19-year-old winger joined from Leganes about six months ago and has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and other top clubs, but the club intends to keep him for now.
“As chairman of the supervisory board, I would say he will definitely be with us next season – even if there were an offer of €80 or €90 million," Mintzlaff said, adding that “not a single interested club has come forward yet.” He noted that “you simply can’t let go of such a young player, whom we just signed, after only one year,” and that Leipzig has worked to ensure players can stay longer. He also acknowledged that long-term retention could be difficult given competition from other top clubs and the club’s history of sometimes letting players go to generate transfer revenue or because they are ready for the next step.
Mintzlaff referenced the club’s ambition, saying there are other top clubs and that “a typical RB transfer” can involve difficult decisions when faced with offers for emerging talent like Diomande.
Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl commented after Bayern’s 5-1 victory at the Red Bull Arena, praising Diomande while explaining that Bayern chose a more experienced option last summer in Luis Díaz from Liverpool. “It was a typical RB transfer,” Eberl said, commending Leipzig for the courage to table a relatively high fee — reportedly around €20 million — and noting that while Bayern values young players, they opted for an established performer with Díaz. He added that Bayern still works with young players as part of its broader approach to player development.
Leipzig’s managing director for sport, Marcel Schäfer, recently explained how Diomande’s move to Germany came about during a media round, detailing the circumstances surrounding the transfer and the club’s approach to developing young talent.
