VfL Wolfsburg and Olympique Lyonnais have reached an agreement regarding Saël Kumbedi, a 20-year-old French right-back. Wolfsburg initially signed Kumbedi on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The agreement allows Kumbedi to remain at VfL Wolfsburg until 30 June 2029. The deal, which was finalized after being in the final stages last month, has now been officially announced by the club.
Kumbedi was originally acquired from OL during the summer on a one-year loan with a €6 million option to buy. Wolfsburg has opted to exercise that purchase option halfway through the loan period, and OL will receive the agreed amount.
This season, Kumbedi has participated in nine Bundesliga matches for VfL Wolfsburg, securing the primary right-back position that was previously held by Kilian Fischer and Danish loanee Mads Roerslev. He has contributed four assists this season, two of which were recorded this month against Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin.
According to Transfermarkt, Kumbedi's current market value is estimated to be around €9 million.
