Manchester United Manager Critiques 'Entitled' Young Players Following Deleted Social Media Content

Ruben Amorim expressed concerns regarding a "feeling of entitlement" among Manchester United's academy players following provocative social media posts from two of its stars. The United manager highlighted the challenges faced by Harry Amass at Sheffield Wednesday and noted that Chido Obi is not consistently starting for the under-21 team.

Both 18-year-olds shared Instagram stories that they later deleted. Amass had posted a photo of himself with a player of the month award, while Obi celebrated a goal from August.

During a pre-match press conference, Amorim defended his candid approach, stating, "Sometimes strong words are not bad words." He emphasized the need for a cultural shift within the club, which currently sits sixth in the Premier League ahead of an upcoming match against Aston Villa.

Amorim remarked that players sometimes forget the significance of representing Manchester United and suggested that the club itself may have lost sight of its identity. He noted, "They feel entitled. They feel free to respond to the manager with a picture."

He also mentioned that his office door is open for players to discuss their concerns, but indicated that no one has approached him. Amorim stressed the necessity for change within the club to foster improvement.

Additionally, Amorim addressed a T-shirt worn by Kobbie Mainoo’s half-brother that read "Free Kobbie Mainoo." He clarified that Mainoo's lack of playing time is not influenced by the T-shirt, stating, "He is not going to start because of the T-shirt but he is not going to the bench because of the T-shirt."

With Brazil midfielder Casemiro suspended for the upcoming match, there may be an opportunity for Mainoo to play. Meanwhile, defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire remain injured, and several players are on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
