Stuttgart Achieves First European Away Victory

VfB Stuttgart achieved their first away victory in the Europa League this season, defeating Go Ahead Eagles 4-0 in Deventer.

The match was overshadowed by policing issues prior to kickoff, resulting in multiple buses carrying VfB supporters turning back. Despite these challenges, Stuttgart aimed to uplift the spirits of their traveling fans.

Stuttgart controlled the early stages of the match, with Jamie Leweling coming close to scoring just after 15 minutes. After receiving a pass from Angelo Stiller, Leweling opted to shoot from a tight angle, which was saved easily, despite having a better option to pass to Lorenz Assignon.

Leweling redeemed himself four minutes later by scoring the opening goal. Following a poor goal kick from the hosts, Maximilian Mittelstädt intercepted the ball and fed Deniz Undav, who assisted Leweling for a close-range finish, giving Stuttgart a 1-0 lead.

Leweling doubled the lead just over 15 minutes later, receiving a pass from Stiller. He drove into the box and executed a clever reverse shot into the bottom left corner, deceiving both the defenders and goalkeeper Jari De Busser.

The hosts started the second half more aggressively, with substitute Oskar Siira Sivertsen creating multiple chances. However, Stuttgart's Bilal El Khannouss was equally impactful, scoring the third goal with a powerful half-volley from a superb pass by Undav.

With Stuttgart seeking to break their away struggles in Europe, the team maintained control of the match, while fireworks lit up the sky away from De Adelaarshorst.

Leweling nearly completed a hat-trick shortly after, but De Busser made a crucial save to deny him. Badredine Bouanani capped off the night by scoring the fourth goal in the 93rd minute, solidifying Stuttgart's comprehensive victory and lifting them to 13th in the standings ahead of their upcoming matches against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Roma, and Young Boys.
