Betis Forward Antony Discusses Previous Negotiations with Bayern Munich that Caused Doubts

A 25-year-old winger, Antony, has confirmed that he was in discussions with Bayern Munich regarding a potential transfer but ultimately chose to return to Real Betis after a successful loan period with the La Liga club during the 2024-25 season.

In an interview with Ge Globo, Antony disclosed that Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern Munich, personally reached out to him in the final hours of the summer transfer window to persuade him to join the German club.

“The transfer window closed the next day. It was really the last day we were negotiating with Betis, and that's when the call from Bayern came," Antony stated. He acknowledged the significance of the opportunity, saying, "We're talking about a giant club, Bayern Munich, and coach Kompany, with his impressive experience, called me personally.”

Antony recounted that the conversation took place around 11 PM and expressed his appreciation for Kompany's respectful approach, noting that the coach had been a long-time admirer of his playing style.

Despite the allure of the move, Antony emphasized that he had already made a commitment to Betis and felt a strong obligation to honor that agreement. He also mentioned that his decision was influenced by family considerations.

“It's a place where I'm really happy, where I feel the support of everyone who welcomed me,” Antony remarked, reflecting on his satisfaction with rejoining Betis after his previous loan experience.
