Wagner Faces Growing Pressure at Augsburg Amid Disappointment

Questions continue to surround the future of FCA Augsburg's head coach, Sandro Wagner, as the team faces a critical Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund on Friday, which could be pivotal for his reputation.

The pressure on Wagner intensified following a disappointing 6-0 defeat last weekend and a subsequent 1-0 loss to VfL Bochum in the DFB-Pokal. Wagner expressed his disappointment, stating, “We had ambitious goals. We brought in fresh players and adjusted the structure a bit. We wanted to play with a central striker and double up on the wings. We managed that quite well on a few occasions. But of course, we're very disappointed that we didn't progress. That was the big goal today.”

The atmosphere among the players was similarly somber. Midfielder Christian Jakic reflected on the loss, saying, “So soon after the game, I'm at a loss for words. We're obviously very disappointed. Especially after the loss against Leipzig, we desperately wanted to win today. We feel sorry for the fans who supported us throughout the entire 90 minutes. But we don't have much time to reflect. We have an important game on Friday [vs Borussia Dortmund], and until then, we need to regroup and work even more closely together.”
