FV Illertissen will host Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal second round on Wednesday evening, aiming to defeat a 2. Bundesliga side for the second time. Illertissen, the only fourth-tier team remaining in the tournament, previously stunned Nürnberg in the first round with a penalty shootout victory.
Competing in the Regionalliga Bayern, Illertissen recently extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 4-3 win over Bayern Munich II. This marks their first appearance in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, following their Bavarian Cup victory last season against SpVgg Unterhaching.
In terms of team news, center-back Maximilian Neuberger, who scored in the Bavarian Cup final, is expected to start. Yannick Glessing, who scored in the first round against Nürnberg, has already reached double-digit goals across all competitions this season.
Magdeburg has shown improvement since the return of club football after the October international break.
