Report Indicates Ongoing Knee Issues May Necessitate Surgery for Chukwuemeka

Since making his transfer to the club permanent this summer, the career of 21-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka at Borussia Dortmund has been hindered by a series of knee problems.

As reported by Ruhr Nachrichten on September 11, Chukwuemeka is the latest addition to Dortmund's growing injury list. The Englishman, who joined the Bundesliga club permanently from Chelsea in late August for €20 million, has been limited to just one substitute appearance.

Coach Niko Kovač stated at a press conference that Chukwuemeka is still lacking full fitness, and his reduced playing minutes are also attributed to a knee injury.

The report from Ruhr Nachrichten highlights a loose joint in Chukwuemeka's knee as a major factor affecting his availability for the team.

BVB had initially aimed to finalize the signing of the 21-year-old early in the summer to facilitate minor surgery during preseason. Had negotiations with Chelsea not stalled over the transfer fee, the plan was for Chukwuemeka to return to training after a two-week layoff.

Kovač's squad is currently dealing with multiple injuries this season, with players such as Niklas Süle and Emre Can sidelined, while Nico Schlotterbeck is gradually returning to fitness.

Additionally, concerns have arisen regarding striker Fábio Silva, who underwent knee surgery shortly before his transfer, a procedure that took place without BVB's prior knowledge.
