Former Bayern Munich defender Bixente Lizarazu has publicly criticized Kingsley Coman's recent transfer to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The move, which reportedly cost €25 million, has raised eyebrows, especially considering Coman's status as a 29-year-old player at the peak of his career.
In an interview with French television program Telefoot, Lizarazu expressed his disbelief over the decision, stating, "No one will convince me that you go to Saudi Arabia for sporting reasons. It's not a league where you go to improve [as a player]." He suggested that Coman could have opted to play in one of the major European leagues, such as England.
Lizarazu also drew a parallel between Coman and fellow French player N'Golo Kanté, who has similarly seen a decline in his role with the national team since moving to the Gulf state.
While the transfer has sparked debate regarding Coman's career trajectory, it has proven financially beneficial for Bayern Munich, as the club received a transfer fee and reduced its salary expenditure.
