Manchester City Engages in Serious Negotiations to Acquire Borussia Dortmund's January Target

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is reportedly interested in securing the signing of French international Rayan Cherki, aiming to outmaneuver Borussia Dortmund in the process.

Cherki was on the verge of joining Borussia Dortmund in January, but Olympique Lyonnais declined their late offer. The talented midfielder is now closer to making a move to a Premier League club.

In addition to AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, Manchester City intends to bolster its squad with the acquisition of the 21-year-old Cherki ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup.

According to reports from Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, the deal is nearing completion for a fee of €40 million. Sky’s Patrick Berger has added that Cherki is open to collaborating with Pep Guardiola following the unsuccessful transfer to the Bundesliga side earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund has not pursued further discussions after the unsuccessful negotiations in the previous transfer window. Cherki is set to represent the French national team for the first time in next week’s UEFA Nations League, where he may face the host nation, Germany, in the final.
