Ange Postecoglou honored his late father, Jim, after making history as the first Australian manager to win a major European football trophy.
Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years and their first European triumph in 41 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Following the match, Postecoglou shared an emotional moment on the field with his wife and two children. The victory held special significance for him, as his father passed away in 2018.
Postecoglou expressed that he feels his father continues to guide him in his career. “He’s still with me mate. His voice is in my head all the time,” he mentioned during a press conference.
He reflected on the impact of his father's guidance and sacrifices throughout his life and career, particularly in football. Postecoglou acknowledged the role his father played in sparking his interest in the sport, saying, “He always said, ‘You do these things for other people,’ and I’m doing it for my family now.”
Born in Greece and migrating to Australia at the age of five, Postecoglou expressed pride in the support he received from family and friends in both countries during this landmark achievement.
Despite the significance of the victory, questions remain about Postecoglou's future with Tottenham, as uncertainty surrounds his retention for the coming season.
