Borussia Dortmund has secured a new main sponsor set to feature on their kit starting from the 2025/26 season. Vodafone will replace the previous sponsors, 1&1 and Evonik.
The club announced a five-year partnership with Vodafone, which will also be displayed on Dortmund's kits for the upcoming season. However, the decision to use Vodafone's red color for the logo has sparked considerable discussion and dissatisfaction among fans, leading to a humorous video response from BVB management.
In the video, club officials read aloud frustrated fan comments regarding the red logo, which many supporters were unhappy to see on their iconic yellow kit. In response, Borussia Dortmund and Vodafone reached a resolution to have the logo appear in black, aligning with the club's traditional color scheme.
Hans-Joachim Watzke, chairman of the BVB management board, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted that we have been able to inspire such a renowned partner to join us in these economically challenging times.”
The financial terms of the deal are significant, with Borussia Dortmund expected to earn approximately €150 to €180 million over the contract's duration. This figure is comparable to the annual sponsorship revenue that RB Leipzig receives from Red Bull, estimated at about €35 million.
In comparison, Wolfsburg leads the Bundesliga in main sponsorship earnings, generating around €70 million annually from Volkswagen, while Bayern Munich secures €50 million per year from Telekom.
