Amiri Leaves Future at Mainz Uncertain Amid Links to Dortmund

Following a recent draw against Bayer Leverkusen, Nadiem Amiri has refrained from committing to his future with Mainz 05, amid speculation linking him to Borussia Dortmund.

Amiri has been a key player for Mainz this season, contributing significantly to the club's sixth-place finish and their qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

After the match, Amiri chose not to discuss his future plans, stating, “I’m going on vacation now, and then we’ll see.”

He expressed his emotional response to Mainz's qualification for European competition for the first time in nine years, shedding tears while celebrating with his son after the game.

“I’m very emotional,” he remarked, reflecting on the moment.

Since transferring to Mainz from Bayer Leverkusen in early 2024, where he faced limited playing opportunities, Amiri has quickly become an integral part of the team.

“At that point, no one was really talking about me anymore,” noted the 28-year-old, who made a return to the German national team in March after nearly four years away.

Amiri's contract with Mainz extends until the summer of 2028.
