Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has praised midfielder Leon Goretzka following reports that he will start in the upcoming match against Italy on Thursday.
Goretzka returns to the Germany squad for the first time since 2023 after a successful period with Bayern Munich. According to a report, he is expected to play alongside Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League tie.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Nagelsmann emphasized the importance of player performance and fit within the team's strategy. He noted, "Since Vincent Kompany's arrival, Leon has regained a high status at Bayern. At the end of the day, performance was the deciding factor. He's a good, experienced Bundesliga player and that's why he's here."
Historically, Goretzka has contributed significantly to the national team, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 57 appearances for Germany.
