Official team news has been released for Germany, who are set to face Italy in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League.
With just over an hour until kick-off, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has announced his starting eleven to take on their rivals. Italy secured second place in League A's Group 2, finishing just behind France on goal difference, with both teams ending up with 13 points.
Germany concluded League A's Group 3 with four wins and two draws from six matches, maintaining their top position ahead of the Netherlands, Hungary, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The team remains unbeaten since their 2-1 extra-time defeat to Spain, the eventual European Championship winners, in July 2024.
For this match, Nagelsmann has chosen a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Oliver Baumann starting in goal. Joshua Kimmich serves as captain, supported by Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger from Real Madrid, and David Raum from Leipzig in the defensive line.
In defensive midfield, Pascal Groß partners Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka. Due to injury, Florian Wirtz is absent, leading to Leroy Sané and Mainz's Nadiem Amiri taking positions alongside Jamal Musiala in attacking midfield roles.
Jonathan Burkardt has been selected to lead the attack, having demonstrated strong form in the Bundesliga with 15 goals and 3 assists in 22 matches, despite some injury setbacks.
Italy, playing at the San Siro, will line up in a 3-5-2 formation, captained by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Head coach Luciano Spalletti includes several Serie A stars, such as Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolò Barella, and Moise Kean, who will partner Giacomo Raspadori in the forward positions.
Official lineups are as follows:
Italy (3-5-2): Donnarumma (c) - Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Calafiori - Politano, Rovella, Tonali, Barella, Udogie - Raspadori, Kean
Germany (4-2-3-1): Baumann - Kimmich (c), Tah, Rüdiger, Raum - Groß, Goretzka - Sané, Musiala, Amiri - Burkardt
