RB Leipzig advanced to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals following a 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg, highlighted by a penalty scored by Benjamin Sesko.
The match commenced energetically, with both teams creating early opportunities. In the fourth minute, Lois Openda missed a chance to score from inside the box after a well-placed cross from Benjamin Sesko. Shortly thereafter, Wolfsburg's Tiago Tomas attempted a powerful shot, but it went into the side netting.
Both teams continued to take shots from distance in the opening minutes, but Leipzig soon began to dominate possession. Wolfsburg responded by creating chances that required Leipzig's goalkeeper, Maarten Vandevoort, to make several saves.
Just before halftime, Patrick Wimmer had a near miss as Vandevoort made another crucial save. Despite having less possession, Wolfsburg managed to outshoot Leipzig in terms of shots on target as they went into the break scoreless.
The second half started with Wolfsburg applying pressure, with efforts from Mohamed Amoura and Andreas Skov Olsen hitting the woodwork and forcing saves. Openda had a significant chance in the 58th minute but failed to convert.
Leipzig gained momentum and received a penalty after Sesko was fouled by Kilian Fischer. The penalty decision sparked some controversy, but Sesko confidently converted it to give Leipzig the lead.
Wolfsburg, now trailing, attempted to respond offensively, but Leipzig retained control and continued to threaten. Despite some late attempts from both sides, including a close call for Wolfsburg in the 87th minute, they could not equalize.
RB Leipzig secured their progress into the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal, aiming to reclaim the trophy they lost in May 2024.
