Horn's Emotional Comeback Highlights Team Effort

After nearly three years, Timo Horn made his return to Bundesliga action during Bochum's derby victory against Borussia Dortmund, marking his first appearance since February 2022.

Following the match, Horn expressed his emotions, stating, “It's incredibly emotional for me and my family. Coming back after three years is not something to take for granted. I'm grateful that Bochum have given me the chance to prove myself again.”

Horn faced a significant challenge early in the game when Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy attempted a shot from 14 yards in the 11th minute. Horn successfully saved the shot, diving low to his left, which he noted helped build confidence for both himself and the team.

As the match progressed, Horn was less frequently called into action as Dortmund struggled to convert their opportunities. Guirassy and Nico Schlotterbeck both missed chances just before halftime, while Bochum's defense remained strong throughout the match.

Praising his teammates, Horn remarked, “It was unbelievable how hard the lads worked today, how much ground they covered, and how well they defended everything. Everyone can be proud of that. It was a fantastic defensive performance from the whole team.”

Looking ahead, Horn's future role in Bochum's efforts to avoid relegation is uncertain, as first-choice goalkeeper Patrick Drewes is expected to return for the upcoming match against Wolfsburg.

Horn reflected on his position, stating, “That's just how it is in goalkeeping, only one can play, and you have to wait for your chance. Today, mine came, and I think I made good use of it.”

He also emphasized his ambition to become the long-term starting goalkeeper, noting, “Of course, when I signed in the summer, my big goal was to become the long-term number one. That's what I work towards every day.”

However, Horn acknowledged that the decision regarding his playing time ultimately rests with manager Dieter Hecking, indicating that “personal feelings” must be set aside in such decisions.
