Ange Criticizes 'Ridiculous' Targeted Attacks as Revitalized Spurs Secure Third Consecutive Victory

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has labeled speculation regarding the team's potential relegation as “ridiculous” and a product of “hysteria.”

Following a challenging period marked by injuries that saw the team lose six out of seven league matches, Tottenham has recently shown signs of improvement. The return of several key players has contributed to better results.

The team's 4-1 victory against relegation-threatened Ipswich Town marked their third consecutive win in the Premier League, the first such achievement since December 2023. Brennan Johnson scored two goals in his first start after recovering from a calf injury, while Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski also contributed to the scoreline.

This win elevated Tottenham to 12th place in the league with 33 points, and they currently hold the fourth-best goal difference in the league. Despite winning ten of their 26 matches, they remain 16 points clear of the relegation zone but 11 points away from the top four.

Postecoglou expressed frustration at the narrative surrounding relegation, emphasizing the absurdity of discussing safety with 12 matches remaining. He noted the importance of focusing on performance and supporting the players during their struggles.

To improve their league standing, Tottenham will need to replicate their recent performance against Ipswich. The defense, which has faced challenges throughout the season, showed signs of solidity, aided by the return of key players.

Postecoglou acknowledged the team's efforts, stating that they executed the fundamentals well despite conceding a disappointing goal. He praised the attacking play, highlighting the contributions of players like Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson.

Looking ahead, Tottenham faces a significant challenge with a mid-week match against Manchester City, a team they have previously defeated 4-0 this season. City, however, has regained form and currently sits fourth in the league.

Additionally, Spurs are set to compete in the Europa League Round of 16 against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, with the first leg scheduled for March 6. Postecoglou believes the upcoming days are crucial for preparing the team for both European and league challenges.
