Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is urging his team to recover from their recent defeat to Mainz as they prepare to host RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena for a Bundesliga match on Friday.
Kompany faced his first Bundesliga loss during last Saturday's home game against Mainz, where Lee Jae-sung scored twice, giving Mainz a 2-0 lead. Leroy Sané's late goal in the 87th minute was insufficient to secure a comeback for Bayern. Following this setback, defending champions Bayer Leverkusen capitalized by defeating Augsburg 2-0, narrowing Bayern's lead at the top of the table to four points.
Despite the disappointment, Bayern maintains an unbeaten record at home this season, having not lost in any of their six Bundesliga matches at the Allianz Arena. The team has won five of those games, including their last four home fixtures against Stuttgart, Union Berlin, Augsburg, and Heidenheim.
In their previous home encounter with RB Leipzig, Bayern emerged victorious, with Harry Kane scoring a stoppage-time winner in February.
In terms of team news, both Kane and Alphonso Davies are expected to return to the squad, though their participation in Friday's match remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Kompany continues to be without Manuel Neuer, Sacha Boey, Hiroki Ito, Kingsley Coman, Joao Palhinha, and Tarek Buchmann.
On the other hand, RB Leipzig is currently in fourth place, trailing Bayern by six points, with a record of eight wins, three draws, and three losses in 14 league matches. After experiencing a four-game winless streak, Leipzig regained momentum with a 2-0 away victory over Holstein Kiel, followed by a 2-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, where Loïs Openda scored the decisive goal.
Leipzig faces a challenging away match against Bayern, having won only one of their last eight Bundesliga games at Bayern, with two draws and five losses. Their only victory came in May 2023. The team aims to improve this statistic and become the third team to win a top-flight match at the Allianz Arena in 2024, joining Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund.
For Leipzig, David Raum may return to the squad, while late decisions will be made regarding Kevin Kampl and Amadou Haidara. However, the team will definitely be without Xavi Simons, Castello Lukeba, Yussuf Poulsen, Eljif Elmas, and Assan Ouédraogo.
