Augsburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen: Champions Aim to Continue Winning Streak

Bayer Leverkusen aims to secure their seventh consecutive victory as they prepare to face Augsburg at the WWK Arena in a Bundesliga match on Saturday.

Augsburg currently sits in 13th place, having achieved four wins, four draws, and five losses in their 13 league matches this season. Despite being in the bottom half of the table, they are closer to European qualification than relegation, with five points separating them from the top six and six points from the bottom three.

The team has shown resilience, losing only one of their last eight matches across all competitions. This lone defeat was against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich last month, but Augsburg rebounded with a 1-0 victory over Bochum and advanced to the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals after defeating Karlsruhe on penalties.

In their most recent league match, Augsburg secured a 2-2 draw against second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. They return to the WWK Arena, where they remain unbeaten in their last four league games, recording three wins and one draw.

In terms of team news, Augsburg will be without players Masaya Okugawa, Mads Pedersen, Yusuf Kabadayi, Finn Dahmen, Fredrik Jensen, and Reece Oxford.

Bayer Leverkusen has enjoyed a successful run of six consecutive victories since a 1-1 draw with Bochum. Their winning streak began with home victories over Heidenheim and Red Bull Salzburg, followed by Bundesliga wins against Union Berlin and St. Pauli, and a narrow win against ten-man Bayern Munich in the Pokal.

Leverkusen's latest triumph came in a Champions League match against Inter Milan, where Nordi Mukiele scored a last-minute winner, placing them fourth in the league phase with two games remaining. The team, currently in third place, trails leaders Bayern by seven points as they shift their focus back to their Bundesliga title defense.

Historically, Leverkusen has had the upper hand in recent away encounters with Augsburg, winning four of their last six meetings, including a narrow 1-0 victory during their last visit to the WWK Arena in January.

For Saturday's match, Leverkusen will assess the fitness of Patrik Schick, while Jonas Hofmann, Amine Adli, and Victor Boniface are confirmed absentees.
