1. FC Union Berlin has announced that chief scout Oliver Ruhnert will pause his duties at the club starting January 2025.
In a brief statement released on Tuesday, Union confirmed that Ruhnert informed the club's board of his decision to become the leading candidate on his party's Berlin state list for the upcoming federal election.
Beginning in January, Ruhnert will focus entirely on campaigning for the federal election, which is scheduled for 23 February 2025.
Ruhnert, 53, has been associated with Union Berlin since 2017. He served as chief scout from August 2017 until May 2018, when he took on the role of managing director for professional football. He returned to the chief scout position last summer.
