Ange Postecoglou has expressed that he is not worried about any potential “negativity” directed towards him if Nottingham Forest loses their upcoming Premier League match against Burnley. He acknowledged, however, that a victory would alleviate pressure on his players.
Since taking over as Nottingham Forest manager, Postecoglou has faced a challenging start, with two consecutive losses: a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 3-2 loss to Swansea in the Carabao Cup. The latter match saw Forest leading 2-0 until Swansea scored three late goals, including two during injury time.
Despite the pressure of seeking his first win with the club, Postecoglou stated he is prepared to handle any personal criticism that may arise from a third consecutive defeat at Turf Moor this weekend.
“There has been a negativity around my arrival since I came to the Premier League. It is the constant space I am in. But it is not about me,” Postecoglou remarked during a press conference.
He emphasized the importance of winning the match on Saturday, not for his own sake, but to address the team’s recent losses. “Every game in the Premier League is tough and you never want to be in a position where you have not won, because then you can start chasing the game a little bit,” he added. “We want to get some points on the board and start moving in the right direction.”
Additionally, Postecoglou mentioned that star defender Murillo is “still a bit sore,” putting his participation in Saturday’s game in doubt. “This is the nature of the business we’re in. You are always going to get some disruptions along the way, so thankfully it’s not too serious. If he doesn’t make tomorrow, he should definitely be right for Wednesday,” he stated.
The Premier League match between Burnley and Nottingham Forest is scheduled to kick off at 12am AEST on Sunday morning.
