Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has criticized Newcastle United for their decision to pay VfB Stuttgart's asking price for striker Nick Woltemade, labeling the Premier League club as "idiots" for the transaction.
After reaching an agreement on personal terms with Woltemade during the summer, Bayern Munich opted to withdraw from negotiations with Stuttgart, citing the asking price as unacceptable.
Rummenigge, a member of Bayern's supervisory board, expressed his concerns, stating, "I said: we’re entering figures that I no longer find acceptable. We shouldn’t meet all their demands," during an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk.
Ultimately, Woltemade transferred to Newcastle United for a reported fee of €75 million. Rummenigge remarked on the situation, saying, "I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart for finding – let me put it in quotes – ‘idiots’ who paid that much money, because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich."
