Newcastle United is resisting attempts to transfer their star striker, Alexander Isak, to a Premier League rival amid ongoing transfer activity in the football market. Reports indicate that Manchester United is targeting a Champions League winner, while Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has made a notable signing following their recent promotions.
Newcastle has reportedly rejected an initial bid from Liverpool for Isak, who has expressed a desire to leave St James’ Park. The striker, training at his former club Real Sociedad, has been the subject of interest from Liverpool since last season. The Premier League champions have submitted a formal offer of approximately £110 million, but Newcastle values Isak at around £150 million.
Isak, who joined Newcastle for £60 million in 2022 and netted 23 Premier League goals last season, is under contract for three more years. Despite not traveling to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to a minor thigh injury, the club has offered him a new deal with a potential release clause for next year, which he reportedly declined in favor of an immediate transfer.
Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, affirmed that Isak remains a player for the club and emphasized their control over the situation. Sky Sports has characterized the situation as a significant challenge for Newcastle during an otherwise promising summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has invested over £250 million in the summer transfer window, acquiring players such as Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, and aims to enhance their attack further by adding Isak.
In other transfer news, Manchester United is pursuing PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is in the final year of his contract with the Parisian club. United has recently bolstered its attack but seeks to strengthen its goalkeeping position, as current keeper Andre Onana has faced criticism due to errors leading to goals.
Wrexham has confirmed the signing of former England international Conor Coady from Leicester City for £2 million and is reportedly finalizing a deal for Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore. The club is actively preparing for its first season in the Championship since 1982.
Tottenham has secured a loan agreement for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha with an option to buy. Palhinha, known for his tackling ability, returns to England after a season in the Bundesliga and is expected to strengthen Tottenham's midfield.
Additionally, Tottenham has sent rising star Mikey Moore on a season-long loan to Rangers, following his remarkable debut and record-setting achievements for the club in previous competitions.
