Premier League champions Liverpool have finalized the transfer of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz's tenure in the Bundesliga concluded after 197 appearances, 57 goals, and recognition as a domestic double winner and Bundesliga Player of the Season. The transfer marks a record sum for English football.
The German international arrived in Liverpool yesterday to undergo the necessary medical procedure, which has now been completed, as confirmed by official statements from both clubs. Bayern Munich had previously expressed interest in the player but ultimately lost the competition to Liverpool.
In his final interview with Leverkusen, Wirtz reflected on his time at the club, stating, "It's not easy to leave after five and a half great years. I've experienced unique things and incredible moments here at Leverkusen. The club always supported me and believed in me, including during the difficult time with my injury."
Wirtz had been sidelined for nearly a year due to an ACL injury but made a successful return to form. Earlier in the transfer window, Liverpool also secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen. The two clubs are expected to maintain communication regarding Jarell Quansah's forthcoming transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.
