New Spurs Manager Offers Respectful Tribute to 'Legend' Ange Postecoglou Following Dismissal

Incoming Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has expressed admiration for departing boss Ange Postecoglou, referring to him as a “legend” following his controversial dismissal.

Postecoglou was relieved of his duties just 16 days after leading Tottenham to a 1-0 victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United, which ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought. Despite securing a place in next season’s Champions League, the Spurs board made a “unanimous decision” to terminate the 59-year-old's contract after a disappointing Premier League season that saw the team finish 17th with 22 losses.

Frank, who has taken over the managerial role, praised Postecoglou for his contributions and emphasized his goal of winning more trophies. “Huge congratulations to the club, to the team … huge congratulations to Ange,” Frank stated on the club’s website. He acknowledged the foundation laid by Postecoglou and expressed his commitment to building upon it.

Frank highlighted the joy of the fans following the Europa League victory and expressed his desire to replicate such moments in the future. He stated, “No one can say they are not winners; the team and the players are winners.”

Having previously managed Brentford since 2018, Frank outlined his vision for Tottenham, promising an “aggressive, front-footed football” approach aimed at transforming the club into “serial winners.” He emphasized the importance of attacking play and taking risks to create scoring opportunities.

“If you don’t take risks, you also take risks. It’s important we take risks,” Frank explained. He noted that losing the ball while attempting to create chances is acceptable, but a lack of effort would be unacceptable.

Frank acknowledged that there would be challenges ahead, stating, “There’ll be ups and downs - right now, it’s a fairytale. Everyone’s happy, the sun is shining, it’s fantastic.” He expressed hope for a successful season filled with memorable moments for the fans.

Earlier this week, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy commented on Postecoglou’s sacking, indicating that the Europa League success was insufficient for him to retain his position.
