Filipe Luis Praises Bayern Munich as a European Powerhouse

Flamengo head coach Filipe Luis has shared his insights ahead of the Club World Cup round of 16 match against Bayern München. He described Bayern as “part of the elite, a giant, a European colossus,” acknowledging their dominance and exceptional squad.

Luis, who took charge of Flamengo in 2024, emphasized the inspiration Flamengo draws from Bayern but noted that anything can happen in a match. He has yet to finalize his lineup and match strategy, stating he will study Bayern before making decisions.

Flamengo advanced to the knockout stage after finishing at the top of Group D, highlighted by a significant 3-1 victory over Chelsea. In contrast, Bayern secured their place in the knockout rounds but lost their last match against Benfica, preventing them from finishing first in their group.

Luis highlighted the importance of Flamengo's identity, stating, “Flamengo's DNA requires you to try to take the ball away from the opponent, try to press, control the game and be as vertical as possible.” He affirmed that they will maintain this approach against Bayern, acknowledging the challenge posed by their quality and style of play.

Defender Alex Sandro, formerly of Juventus, also commented on the upcoming match, recognizing Bayern's strength and the caliber of their players. He expressed enthusiasm for facing such a formidable opponent, viewing it as an opportunity to gauge Flamengo's current level.

The match between Bayern and Flamengo is scheduled for Sunday, June 19th, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
