Former Champions Relegated as Manchester United Faces Further Struggles; Liverpool Nears Crisis in Premier League Summary

Trent Alexander-Arnold propelled Liverpool closer to the Premier League title with a decisive late goal, securing a 1-0 victory against Leicester City, who were relegated as a result. This match followed Arsenal's 4-0 win over Ipswich, which delayed Liverpool's title celebration on Sunday.

Arne Slot's team could have claimed a record-equalling 20th English title if Arsenal had lost and they had won at the King Power Stadium. While Liverpool met their part of the requirement, Arsenal's earlier performance prevented an immediate title clinch.

Despite Liverpool's triumph, they still require six points from their remaining six matches to secure their first title since 2020. Following Alexander-Arnold’s late contribution, Liverpool is now 13 points ahead of Arsenal, with five games remaining for both teams.

Liverpool can clinch the title if Arsenal loses to Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday or if they defeat Tottenham at Anfield on April 27. The match against Leicester was initially challenging, as the home team held Liverpool at bay until the 76th minute, when Alexander-Arnold scored after a rebound following attempts from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota that struck the crossbar.

Amid rumors of a potential transfer to Real Madrid at the end of the season, Alexander-Arnold celebrated his goal passionately, receiving a booking for removing his shirt and placing it on the corner flag as he celebrated with Liverpool fans.

Slot remarked on the significance of the moment, noting the hard work Alexander-Arnold had put in and expressing the team's focus on their upcoming match against Tottenham.

With Liverpool's title celebration imminent, Leicester's relegation was confirmed after a disappointing season, marked by 23 losses in 33 league games. Arsenal, fresh from a victory over Real Madrid that advanced them to the Champions League semi-finals, ensured that Liverpool could not celebrate their title this weekend.

Mikel Arteta made minimal changes to his lineup, resulting in a dominant performance that secured the win within the first half hour. Arteta acknowledged that his team could only delay Liverpool's title win while aiming to finish as high as possible in the league.

In other matches, Chelsea revived their Champions League hopes with a late 2-1 victory against Fulham, while Manchester United experienced their eighth home league defeat of the season, losing 1-0 to Wolves, who secured their fifth consecutive Premier League win.
