Following Germany's 2-1 victory over Italy in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-finals, head coach Julian Nagelsmann addressed the media at the San Siro.
Nagelsmann expressed satisfaction with his team's resilience, noting their ability to recover from an initial one-goal deficit. "I'm especially happy that we came back from 0-1 and won the game. We spoke before the game that we wanted to win both legs," he stated.
The coach highlighted the contributions of substitutes, mentioning, "The guys who came on did really well. We could've scored more goals in the second half." He acknowledged some challenges faced in the first half but emphasized that the team's determination was key to their success.
Nagelsmann specifically praised Leon Goretzka for his performance, stating, "I'm very happy for him. I thought he played a great game, especially in the second half, both defensively and with his presence in the box." He described Goretzka's influence on the game as significant, calling it a "top performance."
Looking ahead to the second leg in Dortmund on Sunday, Nagelsmann recalled a memorable match during the Euros against Denmark and expressed anticipation for the upcoming game. "I'm looking forward to the game in another big stadium. Our fans were loud here today, I hope they will be louder on Sunday," he concluded.
