Magath completes debut double with Bayern Munich - the Bundesliga in 2004-05

After Ottmar Hitzfeld was let go, Bayern Munich hired former Stuttgart manager Felix Magath as their new head coach for the 2004-05 season. Despite not achieving significant success at Stuttgart, Magath quickly found success in Munich, securing the league and cup double in his first season. The 2004-05 Bundesliga season marked a period of transition for several top German teams, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Schalke all appointing new head coaches. Bayern's new coach, Felix Magath, had the financial backing to make significant signings, including Lucio and Torsten Frings, who played crucial roles in the title race. Werder Bremen, the previous season's champions, made a notable signing in Miroslav Klose, while also seeing key players like Ailton depart. The season concluded with Bayern Munich finishing 14 points clear at the top of the table, with Schalke as runners-up and Werder Bremen securing third place. The Bundesliga Player of the Year was Michael Ballack, who had a standout season with Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Felix Magath was recognized as the Manager of the Season for guiding Bayern to both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal titles. The top goalscorer was Marek Mintal, whose 24 goals helped Nurnberg avoid relegation. The season's most expensive transfer was Lucio's move from Leverkusen to Bayern for €12 million. A key moment of the season was when Schalke briefly took the top spot after defeating Bayern, but Bayern's subsequent winning streak secured their title victory.
